
Building Foundations for Information STEM Learning will include:
- Watching skills-based videos on this website
- Reading and using other resources on this site
- Completing independent planning activities for your library
- Participating with other librarians in interactive webinars
- Interacting with other librarians to discuss, plan, and share your Rural Gateways experiences
- Listening to a podcast about the program’s science themes
- Watching the Pushing the Limits program videos and reading the popular fiction/nonfiction books recommended for the programs
You should be able to complete each unit in 60-90 minutes. During this professional development series, you’ll be customizing what you learn to your library, and to the unique needs and interests of your community.

Once you’ve completed the Foundations professional development units above, move to the Advanced Leadership in Informal STEM Learning units. In Units Seven-Twelve, you will learn about:
- What makes science “science”
- How to engage your community with STEM programming
- How to expand your library’s STEM programming
- What makes a good Pushing the Limits program
- How to assess your communities STEM programming needs
- The theories and elements that contribute to engaging ISL programming
As in the previous units, you will be customizing what you learn to your library, and the interests
that are unique to your patron base.
