I was definitely able to see that people’s personal motivation to attend the book club and read the books sprang from personal interest in the topic. People were more than happy to skip a meeting that they were less interested in, although we noticed by the end that even members who were not as interested in the specific topic were still interested in the discussion and group. They knew they would get something from the group even if their interests were not originally piqued by the subject matter.

We had the strongest discussion with the Nature topic, which is understandable because we all connect with nature throughout our lives. It was a very personal discussion for them, where they had the chance to be the “expert” in their own experiences.

We had many people check out additional materials or recommend the reading to their friends so they could discuss it with them as well.
