Our group was small, but unique. One of or attendees is a retired teacher who is a Master Gardener and dabbles in a little bit of everything. She is one of our volunteer storytellers at the library and her story times usually revolve around the theme of nature. Another attendee is a Master Naturalist who is also involved in a lot of different hobbies and activities. The group was curious by nature, well-read, avid readers, who displayed all of the characteristics described as being part of informal science learning. They all had a lifelong, voluntary, and lifelong desire to continue to learn and discover new things about their world.
I loved having our interpreter from our local state park as my science partner. With the themes of nature and survival we were able to talk about the pros and cons surrounding the topics in those books and how they apply in our community. They were smart and savy and kept him on his toes about issues in our community and surrounding areas.
